Buckland and St Radigunds in Dover have been selected to receive up to £20m over ten years through the government’s Pride in Place programme. Dover District Council is supporting a dedicated Neighbourhood Board that will determine investment priorities through consultation with residents and produce the area’s ten-year Pride in Place Plan.
The programme is currently at a formative stage. The Neighbourhood Board is in place, resident engagement is live and the council is actively asking communities what they value, what challenges they face and what improvements should be prioritised. The resulting Pride in Place Plan must be submitted for government approval by 28 November 2026.
Potential investment can include community buildings, green spaces, play areas, public realm improvements, high streets and cultural, social and community activities. 63% of the programme funding must be spent on capital projects.
This is early-stage intelligence rather than a confirmed creative commission.
The board is currently deciding how a £20m neighbourhood investment programme will translate into projects. As priorities move from community engagement into a ten-year delivery plan, there is credible potential for community engagement and communications, neighbourhood narrative, campaigns, environmental graphics, wayfinding and interpretation, public-space activation, cultural programming and communications around individual capital projects.
There is also a broader creative-regeneration context in Dover. The council is opening The Bench, a new creative centre forming part of the wider Dover Beacon regeneration programme, alongside existing investment in Maison Dieu, Market Square and other cultural assets. Dover’s Cultural Strategy explicitly aims to connect cultural assets, improve signage and public realm and bring cultural activity into the town.
However, no specific external creative commission associated with the Buckland and St Radigunds Pride in Place programme has yet been announced.
